Emergency Department Southampton General Hospital

For symptoms of serious illness and major accidents - choose the Emergency Department or 999

Emergency services are very busy. You should only attend the Emergency Department if you are badly hurt or if you become very seriously ill (life-threatening). Make sure the Emergency Department is available if you or your loved ones need it by NOT choosing this service unless you really need to.

GP Out of Hours Service

For fevers and infections that cannot wait for your surgery to re-open, choose the GP Out of Hours Service

If the surgery is closed, contact the GP Out of Hours Service for urgent medical problems or illness which cannot wait until usual surgery opening time. Call 111 to access this service.



For tummy upsets, coughs and colds - choose a Pharmacist

Visit your Pharmacy for help treating minor ailments, general health advice and travel health advice. Many pharmacies have private consulting rooms. Pharmacists are trained how to tell a minor ailment from something more serious. If you need over the counter medicines a pharmacist can help you choose which is best for you and your symptoms.
